Climate change presents the world with both an enormous challenge to overcome and an opportunity to come together, share knowledge and invest in our shared future. The Climate Alliance seeks to support global leaders to meet this challenge through sharing evidence-based information on climate research.
Enabling innovation in climate research and its application
Sharing knowledge and best practice on climate education
Facilitating effective research collaboration on a global scale
Universities are uniquely placed to share knowledge and expertise, not only in climate science, but in related research fields including, adaptation and mitigation. We believe it is through collaboration that we can create greater insight and action.

Universities have a responsibility to serve the global community, to help it meet the most complex challenges facing humanity. My hope is that this Alliance, by bringing together the best minds in the world, will find a way to stem the existential threat of climate change.
As experts in climate change, Monash University is delighted to be a founding member of the Climate Alliance. Our world-leading research in climate science is evidenced by the many ways we are already making an impact, including multiple lead authors of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports and a strong portfolio in climate across many fields and disciplines.
The Climate Alliance is a timely effort to increase the awareness of climate change – the greatest challenge of our lifetime. Global crises require global actions and solutions, and University of Bergen is well prepared to contribute within its priority areas climate and energy transitions, marine research and global challenges.
Climate and sustainability research is a core theme of Utrecht University and we are working on solutions for climate change and biodiversity loss. We want all students to come in contact with sustainability themes, to raise awareness and educate them in bringing future solutions.
With the international partners in the Climate Alliance consortium we have the opportunity to further develop cross-subject offers for students on the causes, consequences and handling of climate change.
I am pleased that we are creating a network with the Climate Alliance that is strengthening climate research across the globe. The University of Bremen supports the Climate Alliance because we are able to contribute our expertise from the field of climate research to the mission to communicate the scientific findings worldwide so that science becomes even more visible.
At this critical time for health and prosperity across the planet, it is important that we collaborate across the global divides to address the grand challenges. As a leading producer of knowledge on climate change in Africa, UCT is honoured to work with other important partners to increase the impact of the critical work we do.
We are proud to be a founding member of the Climate Alliance that brings together leading universities to address threats of climate change. TERI SAS is one of the few universities globally, fully dedicated to accelerating the transition to a more sustainable world in sync with its motto of ‘knowledge for sustainable development’.
The universities in the Alliance are training the next generation of climate researchers. This global Alliance will provide support, collaboration, and development of these researchers that crosses boarders. Climate change is a global issue and collectively we will produce our future climate leaders.
The University of Hong Kong supports the Climate Alliance as a vehicle for promoting research into climate change and its effects. Our climate recognises no borders and so an international effort harnessing the innovative research of our universities to tackle critical issues such as greenhouse gas emissions is needed.
The University of Edinburgh has an exceptional record of research and teaching on all aspects of climate change. We are also committed to making the World a better place. Therefore, we are delighted to be a Founding Member of the Climate Alliance, to help find solutions that span the north-south socio-economic divide.
Because of its interdisciplinary nature, graduate and postgraduate training in climate sciences poses a great challenge to university educational programs. The International Universities Climate Alliance will act as a timely network to exchange best practice in climate science education, thus making all of us better in the training of young people.
New York University is proud to be a founding member of the Climate Alliance. As one of the world’s premier research universities — with academic centers on six continents — NYU stands ready to contribute our unique expertise and perspective to this important collaboration, and to work together to develop innovative solutions to climate change.
Tackling the climate crisis requires global cooperation on an unprecedented scale. The Alliance can deliver this by sharing best practice across universities, providing a coordinated evidence base to inform urgent decisions, and training a new generation of innovative researchers to deliver net-zero on our campuses and around the world.
As a large and comprehensive research university, USP dedicates most of its interdisciplinary competence towards environmental research, including climate change studies. The International Universities Climate Alliance represents a joint worldwide effort that will contribute to the development of the scientific knowledge and policies on these important subjects
As a prestigious university with a 100 year-long history, our University covers almost all subjects of climate change research from natural to social science. We are pleased to join the Alliance as a foundation member, and to contribute to global climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The global will to act on climate change is strong but the pace of action has been far too slow. The Alliance aims to accelerate the global response by being a leading voice for scientifically based mitigation and adaptation strategies.
